A Christian Tribute to Dr. Ken Ujunwa: A True Christian Patriot Who Lived for God and His People churchhistorychronicles.blog.com

It is with both joy and sorrow that I honor the life of my father, Dr. Ken Ujunwa. Though we feel the pain of his passing, we are comforted knowing he has entered eternal rest with his Savior. His life, full of faith, service, and love for others, leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Life Rooted in Faith
Born on August 17, 1950, in Obinze, Owerri-West LGA, Imo State, Nigeria, Dr. Ujunwa was the twelfth and last-born child of Mr. Douglas Eke and Mrs. Katerina Eke. His name, "Ujunwa," meaning “the last-born child among many siblings,” gave him great confidence and hope, as he benefited from the wisdom and experiences of his elder siblings. Growing up in a Christian home, he was nurtured in faith, love, and service to God, principles that guided him throughout his life.

Academic and Professional Pursuits
Dr. Ujunwa’s academic journey began at Azido Primary School and continued at Okigwe Grammar School, excelling in his studies. He later earned a degree in History and International Studies from Imo State University. Afterward, he moved to Lagos, where he worked with leading organizations like Unilever and the Nigerian Ports Authority. While he found success in the corporate world, he always felt a higher calling to serve God and others, which became the cornerstone of his life’s work.

Serving Christ Through the Church
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Ujunwa devoted himself to serving the Lord. He became a lay reader in the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West, where he poured his heart into spreading the gospel. His ministry was never about recognition but about serving others in Christ’s name. Whether preaching or offering guidance to those in need, he lived his life with humility, love, and dedication to building the body of Christ.

Living for Men and Serving the Poor
Dr. Ujunwa also demonstrated his faith in his professional life by employing many individuals, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds. Throughout his career, he made it a priority to give people opportunities for work and advancement, understanding that true success is not measured by wealth but by how many lives are touched and changed. His leadership was marked by compassion, and many were able to improve their lives because of his commitment to service.

A Family Man of Strong Faith
At home, Dr. Ujunwa was a loving and devoted husband and father. Together with his wife, they raised five children—three boys and two girls—instilling in them the importance of faith, love, and hard work. He led by example, teaching his children the values of integrity, compassion, and faith in God. His guidance shaped the lives of his children, all of whom have gone on to become professionals and leaders in various fields.

A Legacy of Service and Patriotism
Before his passing, Dr. Ujunwa had been nominated for knighthood in the Diocese of Lagos West, a testament to his years of dedicated service to the church and his community. His legacy extends beyond his career and church service—it is found in the lives he impacted, the faith he spread, and the many people who benefitted from his kindness and guidance. He was a true Christian patriot, always striving to build up both the body of Christ and the community.

A Heavenly Reward Awaits
Although we will miss him, we find peace in knowing that Dr. Ujunwa has finished his race and is now with the Lord, where there is no more sorrow, only eternal joy. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, Dr. Ujunwa fought the good fight and has now received his reward in heaven.

Rest in Peace, Dad
We will forever cherish the love, wisdom, and guidance you gave us, Dad. Your life was an example of what it means to live for Christ with joy and humility. Your legacy will live on in our hearts, and we will carry forward the lessons you taught us. Rest in peace, knowing your work on earth has made a lasting difference.
